Introducing children to Process Painting

20230327_111748.jpg

The project, over two workshops, will encourage creativity and transform the classroom into an art studio.

Children will be given the freedom to explore paint and respond to their art creatively and independently. The project is fully funded. All equipment and materials will be provided and we will travel to each participating school to deliver the workshops;

Workshop 1:
Painting

Process painting is all about the paint and the moment. The participants get to play with the paint and explore pattern and colour. We enjoy the process without being conscious of the end goal. We’re less interested in the destination, but rather how we get there.

Workshop 2:
Responding to our Paintings

In second workshop we will look at our paintings and respond to them; What do we see in them? What could they become? We can use markers, pastels or scissors and paste to alter the paintings, turning them into something new. Children can make individual works or group pieces, this will be up to the individual participants.

Independent thinking encourages confidence in problem solving, which is beneficial across other subjects.

Who can participate in this project?

Primary school children of all ages across County Kerry are welcome to register their interest via the form below.

Interested teachers should apply with permission from school principal. Parents or guardians who are interested, please speak to your teacher and encourage them to apply.

Project will take place during the months of May–June and September–October 2024. Limited availability and Ts and Cs apply.

About Creative Communities

Harnessing the creative potential of our people and communities is a cornerstone of the Creative Ireland Programme. In each of the 31 local authorities, the Creative Ireland Programme has established a Culture and Creativity Team which brings together local expertise in arts, heritage, libraries, enterprise and community engagement, to foster collaboration and spark new initiatives. With the help of local artists, creatives, cultural and heritage organisations and community groups across the country, each local authority has created a new five-year Culture and Creativity Strategy 2023–2027. These are designed to enable people are working together to transform their communities, their lives and their environment through creativity.
